Cinema Latino

Custom Content Management for a Dynamic, Media Rich Website

The Cinema Latino website, created for parent company Sonora Entertainment headquartered in Denver, Colorado, presented some interesting challenges. Sonora has theatres nationwide that have different movie schedules and local promotions. The website needed to be highly entertaining and yet be very dynamic—the content changes weekly as movies come and go. To make it cost effective, Fx One Seven Zero created a rich media shell consisting of Adobe Flash components for the front end which draws graphic and text content from a MYSQL database using a PHP framework. Then we built a custom content management interface again using Adobe Flash components that Sonora Entertainment personnel could use to easily upload new graphics and text such as movie posters, movie descriptions, and theatre schedules and special promotions.

Highly dynamic content, such as movie posters and plot synopses change weekly as movies come and go.

Individual theatre managers can upload their schedules when ready. An automatic warning is sent to the site administrator if the schedule has not been updated 24 hours before the deadline each week.

The custom content management interface enables the Sonora Entertainment administrator to use convenient drop downs and a plain text editor to add a new movie to the roster. The site administrator uploads the movie poster image file just once and then the same image is automatically sized and delivered to the home page rotating animation, the movie info page, and a reduced version on the theatre schedule page.

Other custom controls allow the administrator to add banners, polls, or trivia questions to the home page; select movies to rotate in the “Now Showing” and “Coming Soon” animations; create coupons and promotional fliers and administer the user permissions for the theatre managers and other personnel who have access to limited portions of the site.
